A special showcase of 9 talented performers and performing groups celebrating the stories they choose to convey with their art.

Following the Novaforma Dance Weekend with Moria Chappell last month, we are delighted to host a Novaforma Showcase. Featuring renowned fusion dancer, choreographer and performing artist Moria Chappell (USA); fan voi creator Betty Kang (Singapore); and InangaTaxeem (Rwanda), the show also welcomes some of the wonderful workshop participants from the Novaforma weekend.
 

ABOUT THE SHOW

​

Ticket profits from the Novaforma Dance Showcase, taking place on January 24, will go to the CouRAGEus Project. Clever Belly Dance has selected the CouRAGEus Project, from the Women & Girls Network, for their focus and support for Black and minoritised young women (aged 14-24), including those from ethnic minority groups, LGBT+ and disabled young women.

As performers are located across the world, we have pre-recorded very special and exclusive performances to play together on January 24, 2021 through a Zoom Webinar Broadcast.

Ticket suggested price is £8 each, but we would appreciate any donation between a £5 - £10 / $6.50 - $13USD sliding scale.

The Performers

 

Moria Chappell, USA

 

Moria has performed, taught, and researched dance from across 46 countries over her 20-year dance career. Known for her archetypal approach to performance craft, her style is both feminine and fierce, ancient and modern, sacred and strange. Moria became a principle dancer, and subsequently the Artistic Director, for the world famous Bellydance Superstars from 2005-2015. You can learn more about her online at www.moriachappell.com.

Betty Kang, Singapore

 

Betty is the creator of fan voi, which is a hybrid of fan veils and veil poi. She has enjoyed bellydancing since 2009, and made her first pair of fan voi in 2012 because she enjoyed fusion bellydance with both poi and fanveil, and wanted to combine them within the same dance. She performed on stage with her fan voi for the first time in October 2013 and now specialises in fan voi fusion choreography, combining traditional dance styles with the flow arts style of silk fan dancing and poi. InangaTaxeem, Rwanda

 

Esther, Aline and Hilde are three members of InangaTaxeem: a cultural music and dance troupe based in Rwanda. Combining elements of Egyptian, Rwandan and Spanish culture, InangaTaxeem is a cross cultural exploration where tradition meets innovation. Follow them on Instagram here.

Sureya Bellydance, UK

 

Sureya is a professional belly dance performer, choreographer and instructor based in London. Her passion for this art stems from her Turkish roots and she has trained in a number of styles in the UK and abroad. These include Turkish Oryantal, Romany, Egyptian Oriental, Classic & Folklore, Tribal Fusion as well as Ballet and Hip Hop. She has been enjoying the Elite Undeniables programme over the last 10 months and is excited to perform for the first time online. For more information, please visit www.sureyabellydance.com.

Roxane Grant, UK

 

Roxane is a fun multi-award winning performer who has won dances competitions in the UK and Italy; including Miss Bellydance UK She is also a passionate photographer who has taken part in many international exhibitions and been featured in fashion magazines such as Marie Claire China. She also a semi-finalist in the BBC art reality TV show, ‘Show Me The Monet’. Follow Roxane on Instagram.

Adira

​

Emma McClintock and Jenny Dao have been dancing together for almost a decade. Brought together by their passion for Bellydance, they have been regular performers in Melissa Bellydance’s troupe Mahira. In 2017, they formed Adira, a collaborative fusion dance troupe drawing inspiration from their own styles and experiences.

Katira Carone

 

Katira is a fusion dancer based in the UK, growing up between the woods, the sea and the country side in Italy. Using nature as her stage and inspiration, Katira dances as an emotional release and a way to train in discipline.

​

Nova Haze

​

Nova Haze is a Seattle-based dancer and performance artist. For the better part of a decade she has been entertaining the Pacific Northwest and beyond with her unique dance style. Nova was inspired to begin dancing as a child, where it was a way to escape and grow stronger in a very chaotic and adverse environment. With the benefit of life experiences around the world, she returned to dance as an adult as a form of creative expression.

Diana Lunae

 

Diana has been dancing since 2007 in her home country, Portugal, falling in love with Fusion quickly. She danced as part of Al Nawar dance company ( PT), performing solos, showcases and medieval fairs, that are quite popular in Portugal. After moving to the UK in 2014, she continued with ATS classes with Philipa Moirai and modern fusion bellydance with Melissa Bellydance.

About the CouRAGEus project

Ticket proceeds from the Novaforma Showcase, taking place on January 24, will go to the CouRAGEus Project. Clever Belly Dance has selected the CouRAGEus Project, from the Women & Girls Network, for their focus and support for Black and minoritised young women (aged 14-24), including those from ethnic minority groups, LGBT+ and disabled young women. The CouRAGEus Project are a diverse group of organisations who work with young women affected by violence and abuse, who know that young women and girls are often overlooked or misunderstood – so they work together to ensure that these women get the support you deserve.
